What to expect from your baby's Cake Smash - Fairfield County, CT
/The Cake Smash photoshoot has become very popular lately, but many people are still unsure of how it works. With that in mind, I decided to write a piece about this subject.
I have been working with this type of photoshoot from the start of my career, in 2011, and I can assure you that you never know what’s coming. When it comes to children, everything becomes unpredictable, including whether or not he/she will actually destroy the cake, and I've seen it all…lol
What I can tell you beforehand is that the child needs to be rested for the photoshoot to work. In other words, it becomes essential that your kid sleep well before the shoot so that he/she doesn't get easily tired. I make it a point to explain this to my clients the moment they contact me to schedule the shoot.
In the first appointment, we will also choose a theme for the shoot. I always try to identify what the child and the parents like, because the theme has to be something that resonates with the family, be it a story that represents them or something that is important to the parents, or even something based on cartoon characters that the child likes.
Having established the theme, we will start thinking about the studio's decoration for this very special moment. In this step, I won't save time or effort in order to make sure everything is perfect. This can take hours upon hours of looking for props and backdrops until the big day arrives.
Another aspect that I am frequently asked about is what to wear and whether the parents will appear in the photoshoot as well. I usually give clothes suggestions and have some clothes available in the studio that can be used if necessary, but I leave the parents in charge of the purchase. Regarding the participation of the parents... I often jokingly say that the parents are “obliged” to take pictures with the birthday boy/girl, as the family is and will always be an important part of my photographs. However, the photos with the parents will be taken in another setting and with different clothes than those used in the Cake Smash photoshoot.
A total of 2 changes of clothes will be allowed. But one thing is absolutely essential in this whole process: the family as a whole should have fun and commit that moment to memory for the rest of their lives. I also suggest printing a beautiful album.
Milena, what about the cake and the decorations, are those included? Yes! Your only job when booking with me is to put your child to sleep, get ready for the photos and drive to the studio. Leave all the rest to me! Your time doesn't come back and you have to enjoy every minute as much as possible.
