My Story

Hello, my name is Milena Cerqueira. I am a family photographer and I would love to share with you guys more about what made me start in photography.

Photography was always a part of my family’s lives because my grandfather was a photographer. Unfortunately, he passed away when I was young and I was not able to see me photographing. However I still have our photographs to remind me of our past . This fact makes me so happy because I am able to go back on the past and remember all the important people I had and have in our lives.

My daughter was only 2 years old when I started to realize that I was doing everything wrong. It was not even close to what I was taught to do. Pictures were always important for my family and it should be now for my daughter too. So, my husband gave me my first semi-professional camera and that is when I decided to take photography classes.

I spent years photographing families and newborns, but my career changed completely. Unfortunately, I had my first miscarriage in 2012 and baby was 4 months old. That was just the beginning of my fight to have another child. I suffered for years with depression and panic attacks. I was not motivated to take newborn photos anymore. I could feel the pain of all the women who wanted to have babies and they couldn’t. Had you ever thought about that?

God was great with me and in 2015 I felt alive again. I was pregnant and it was a baby girl. The whole situation made me grow as a person and as a professional photographer. I was a different person after that.

One of the most important times of my life was to photograph my daughters together. My baby was only 9 days old. I had many complications during pregnancy and fought to have her with us and I had to make it a remarkable memory to my entire family. I was motivated again to show my clients how powerful photography will be to their future.

I still cannot believe that I have my mom’s photos of her pregnancy and my newborn photos. This is my story!! I am proud of my parents for still keeping my memories alive and I am sure my daughters will be too when they grow up and look back.
